The Summer Party – The Face. Step 3… Blushing, Highlighting, Bronzing.

DAISY_PURPLE

Step 3 – Blushing, Highlighting, Bronzing – oh my!

It’s time to finesse that face with all manner of powders and creams!

On the Playlist – Fergie ‘Fergalicious’

First up is a little bronzer – this isn’t so much contouring, just giving your skin a sun kissed glow with a subtly sculpted effect.

Take a powder bronzer, a medium sized fluffy brush (preferably angled) and lightly take the powder in the shape of the number 3 along each side of your face: going across your temples, down your cheekbone, back up the cheekbone then down along your jaw (I’ve put a little diagram below if my attempt to describe this doesn’t pass muster)

Next is blush! For this look a coral shade will work nicely and complement the bronzer perfectly. Swirl a fluffy brush in the blush, tap it off to get rid of any excess (I also sometimes pat the brush on the back off my hand to make sure I’m not going in too heavy) and lightly dab on the apples of your cheeks.

It helps if you grin at yourself in the mirror – you’ll look silly but smiling really makes your apples pop.

Swirl the blush up towards your temples in circular motions, going right up to your ears, and keep blending until it all looks seamless. Remember with blush a light hand is key, you want to look delicately flushed, not ruddy.

Next up is highlighter! This might be a scary concept for some, but trust me – it’s incredibly easy and will massively elevate this whole look.

For a glow J-Lo would be proud of, take either a liquid or powder highlight and pat lightly (emphasis on lightly!) with your forefinger/brush onto the very tops of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, a little on your chin and a touch on your cupids bow.

Blend this in with a brush or a beauty sponge – either way make sure it‘s really patted on in there.

The final step is to make sure your hard work lasts all night by sealing it using a translucent powder.

Take a large fluffy brush, swirl in the powder, tap off the excess and dust gently wherever your makeup tends to wear off or you get oily (for most people this is the nose, forehead and chin). To really banish summer melty face take powder or good old fashioned blotting paper in your bag for touch ups.

…aaand after a mere 3 posts your face is finally done! Typing this out all makes it feel like such a long-winded process but honestly it’s not as arduous as it sounds! Feel free to skip bits, ignore all of it, or treat these posts as quasi-religious text – whatever you take from this is up to you. J Pop back tomorrow for the final two instalments – the really fun bits; eyes and lips.

Bronzer Application

My Personal Favourites…

Bronzer – Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer

Estee Lauder

This silky smooth powder comes in four shades and isn’t full of glitter like some bronzers on the market, meaning a natural holiday glow is at your finger tips all year round. (Get it: Boots, Debenhams, John Lewis)

Blush – Benefit Coralista

Coralista

For about 3 years (and this is not an exaggeration) this was the only blusher I owned. Not only did it last that long despite almost daily application, it’s so stunning that I had no desire to use anything else (I was an impoverished student so I couldn’t afford anything else, but that’s beside the point!) I can’t recommend highly enough! (Get it: Debenhams, Boots)

Liquid Highlighter – Sleek Barekissed Illuminator

Barekissed

I have this liquid illuminator in the shade ‘Monaco’ and I really get on with it. You only need a teeny, tiny amount to get a really nice glow going on and it blends beautifully. (Get it: Boots, Superdrug)

Powder Highlighter – E.l.f Baked Highlighter

elf

This cult US brand has just launched at Superdrug and one of the products you’ll want to get your hands on first is their baked highlighter. A favourite among beauty bloggers and a bargain at £5 you can’t really go wrong. (Get it: Superdrug)

Finishing Powder – Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

rimmel

This brilliant powder from Rimmel can easily stand alongside powders from pricier brands and it’s slim design means it’s clutch friendly. (Get it: Literally everywhere)

Brushes – Morphe 11 Piece Set

morpheWhether you’re a makeup whizz or a total beginner this is a cracking all round set. Seriously – buy this, treat them well and be set for years to come! (Get it: Cult Beauty ) Grab it here!
